WATCH: Robert Terry on Raul Garcia draw, next fight in Newark on Nov. 11
Junior middleweight prospect Robert Terry (10-0-1, 4 knockouts) doesn’t hold any bitterness about the judging in the lone blemish on his record.
Terry tells NJBoxingNews.com that he agrees with the draw verdict that went on his record after his eight round battle with Raul Garcia on April 7 in his ShoBox debut. The fight was a back and forth contest, with Terry having the edge early on before Garcia came on strong. Terry reveals that he had a shoulder injury during training which inhibited him in the fight.
“I’m gonna say it was a draw because I know I could have done much better. I learned a valuable lesson after that match. I feel like I went in there half a man because I got injured in camp two weeks out. I didn’t have enough time to adapt so there was a lot of pressure on me,” said the 30-year-old from Jersey City, N.J.
“I would love to run it back, definitely.”
Terry has since come back with a 39-second knockout of the less-than-motivated Heivinson Herrera in August, and looks to make more of a statement when he returns to the ring on November 11 against an opponent to be named at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark. That card will be headlined by local bantamweight prospect Emmanuel “Salserito” Rodriguez in his own comeback bout against Gilberto Mendoza in an eight-round bout.
“I want to showcase my talent. I want to work on a lot of different things, there are some things we’ve been working on that are new. I’m gonna surprise everyone. I’m gonna show a lot of people some things that they didn’t know I was able to do before. This is gonna be much better for me. This is gonna be one hell of a night,” said Terry.
