2025 NJ Diamond Gloves opening night results
The 2025 New Jersey Diamond Gloves kicked off on Saturday, October 11 at Legacy Boxing Club in Belleville, N.J., featuring 14 bouts, including a number of open class matchups. In 143-pound open class action, reigning NJ Golden Gloves open class champion Randy Cardona won a unanimous decision over Luis Aybar in a battle of sometimes sparring partners, while Erik Mendez of Ike and Randy’s Gym in Paterson kicked off his bid for his second NJ open class title this year at 132 pounds with a split decision over Ridgefield Park’s Christopher Stewart.
In 154 pounds open action, Christian Taveras Martinez made his open class debut with a unanimous decision over Anthony “Chino” Belizaca, and Mark Ellison won a split decision over Jonathan Gordon. A 165-pound open rematch between Alvin Matthews and Chris Campbell was nixed after Matthews, who won two of their three previous fights, withdrew with a leg injury.
The next round of the NJ Diamond Gloves will take place on Saturday, October 18 at Brunswick Boxing Stars in North Brunswick, with weigh-ins scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the show to start at 2 p.m.
