Marc Chaparro scores third round TKO in pro debut

Marc Chaparro brought “Chapo Time” to Billerica, Mass., on Friday, scoring a third round knockout in his professional debut.

The popular junior middleweight from West Hempstead, N.Y. dropped Jose Aubel (8-13, 7 KOs) three times in the second round – all on body shots – before the 39-year-old Argentinian indicated he could not continue moments into the third round.

It was a successful first pro outing for the 22-year-old Chaparro, who won the 2025 New York Metropolitan Championships open title and finished second at the 2024 USA Boxing Summer Festival.

“It feels great knowing I took that step to get closer to achieve the promise I had made to my mom,” said Chaparro, referencing his deathbed promise to his mother to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion.

“Stepping in that ring felt a little different without the headgear, without the sponge-like gloves. It’s definitely a different feeling, a different game. Every punch really matters, there’s no more flicking, no more touching, it’s just straight war. Smart, calculated chess war. I really saw that any second the game can change.”

Chaparro weighed 153 pounds while his opponent was 149 pounds.

Chaparro’s Westbury Boxing gym mate Peter Latorre also picked up a win on Friday, but had to go the full six rounds to do so. The 28-year-old “Voodoo” outpointed Brazilian Rodrigo Lopes Rodrigues but seemed concerned afterwards that he had injured his right hand in the process.

With the win, Latorre improves to 7-0 (6 KOs) while Lopes drops to 8-12 (7 KOs).
