“Dangerous” Danny Gonzalez lived up to his monicker again, scoring a third round stoppage of Zachary Davis on Saturday, September 7 at the Performing Arts Center in Carteret, N.J.

The 29-year-old lightweight improved his record to 3-0 (3 knockouts) after body punches from Gonzalez caused Davis (0-3) to double over in pain, compelling referee Shada Murdaugh to stop the bout at the 54 second mark. Gonzalez of Iselin, N.J. was fighting for the first time under new trainer Derrick “Poppy” Rolon at Elizabeth Recreation Gym, and was his first fight since March.

Gonzalez tells NJ Boxing News that he figures he could have gotten his opponent out of there earlier if he had invested in the body more.

“My opponent was awkward but game. I had to make a few adjustments after the first round due to him being surprisingly durable. In the second and third round I came using my jab more and working off of that which eventually led to the body shot that ended the fight,” said Gonzalez, a 2023 N.J. Golden Gloves champion.

“The environment was great and the crowd was lively. It was an amazing feeling to be able to fight close to home and have the support I did.”

Davis, 25, of Moss Point, Miss. suffers his second KO loss in the defeat.

Ghandi Romain (5-1, 4 KOs) went the distance for the first time in his pro career, shutting out Dashaun Johns (4-6, 3 KOs) in their four round welterweight bout. Romain, 27, of Irvington, N.J. shut out Johns, 33, of Brooklyn, N.Y., winning by unanimous scores of 40-36.

The show was promoted by Rising Star Promotions, which will promote another event on October 12 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Boxers scheduled to appear on that card include Newark favorites Michael “Slick” Anderson and Emmanuel “Salserito” Rodriguez, plus Irvington’s Jean Pierre Valencia and Ghandi Romain.
