“Dangerous” Danny Gonzalez lived up to his nickname on Saturday night, scoring a first round knockout of Orlando Collins at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J.
The lightweight prospect Gonzalez (2-0, 2 knockouts) of Iselin, N.J. used his superior boxing technique to overwhelm Collins (0-10-1) before a right uppercut followed by a left hook put him to the canvas for the count. The count reached 10 at approximately the 2:20 mark says Gonzalez, who is trained by Percy Gayanilo out of Park Elite Boxing Academy in Roselle Park, N.J.
“He came out strong, once I settled in and established my jab everything else started to open up and I saw the opportunity for the left hook and capitalized off it and dropped and finished him with that punch,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez, 28, won the 2023 N.J. Golden Gloves open class title last year at 147 pounds, and made his pro debut shortly after, stopping Michael Ruiz in two rounds last July.
The loss is the quickest knockout yet for Collins, 36, of Euless, Texas, whose only two previous stoppages were both in the fourth round.
Also on the Heavy Hitting Promotions card, Tyler Vanorden of Elizabeth, N.J. had a successful pro debut, winning a unanimous decision over Elias Ajuwa (0-3-1) in a four-round super middleweight bout.
Vanorden, who is better known as “Ghost,” was the 176-pound N.J. Diamond Gloves champion last year and trains out of Gladiator Boxing in Forked River, N.J.
