Ian Green wins sixth straight, KOs Vaughn Alexander in 8
Paterson’s Ian Green moved one step closer to middleweight contention on Saturday, becoming just the second person to knock out Vaughn Alexander.
Green (18-2, 12 knockouts) successfully defended a minor WBA regional title with the win, which came by a body shot knockout at the 2:40 mark of round 8. The only other boxer to stop Alexander was Zach Parker, who got the job done in 2021.
After the fight, Green dedicated the win to his late mother, whose birthday was on Sunday. He also sent a message supporting those undergoing mental health struggles.
“If you’re ever going through something, keep pushing. If you’re ever depressed and don’t know what you want to do, keep pushing. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I ain’t where I want to be, but I’m not where I started, and that’s all that matters,” said Green, 30, who has now won six straight.
“Like I said before I’m a dog. He caught me with a good shot, so I had to show him and switch it up. I worked on that body shot every day in the gym, and I made it happen today.”
Green is promoted by Don King Promotions.
