Newark’s Ramon Ordonez to make pro debut May 1

“Razor” Ramon Ordonez, a 5-time national champion from Newark, New Jersey, will make his professional debut on May 1 after signing a promotional deal with ProBox TV.

Ordonez, 19, will face an opponent to be named in a four-round featherweight bout at Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover, Maryland on the undercard of the Tsendbaatar Erdenebat vs Cobia Breedy card.

Ordonez, who had fought in two international tournaments for USA Boxing, has signed with manager Rick Mirigian, and is trained by his father, Victor, plus New York’s Eric Roman.

Ordonez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, told BoxingScene: “I want to become world champion – that’s definitely a goal of mine. I also want to leave my mark and impact on the sport. I just look back at films of Miguel Cotto and Tito Trinidad, the love they would get from their people. Those guys had parades thrown for them after their fights.
