Saturday’s Trenton amateur card moved indoors due to rain
The Trenton Mayor’s Boxing Championship amateur card set for this Saturday, September 7 has been moved to an indoor location due to expected rainfall.
The show, originally scheduled to take place at Father Rocco Park in Trenton, will now take place at Donnelly Homes Gymnasium, located at 875 New Willow Street in Trenton, N.J. according to promoter Robert Smarr of Knuckle Game Boxing.
The card will feature amateur boxers from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware, with winners to receive red WBC belts. Weigh-ins are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with fights to start at 2 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Among the matchups on the card is a 147-pound open class showdown between boxers from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Allentown, Pa. Sebastian Mazeneth, the Bay Ridge, Brooklyn resident who earned silver at the 2024 Summer Festival in Kansas, will face 17-bout veteran Julian Lopez of Allentown’s Lehigh Valley P4P Boxing.
Also scheduled, local favorite Alvin Matthews of Trenton will face Elias Bernado of Newark in a 165-pound open class showdown. Matthews, a 2022 N.J. Diamond Gloves subnovice champion, has been runner-up to the last three open class state finals, while the 23-year-old Bernado won this year’s 165-pound novice title.
Four boxers from Park Elite Boxing Academy in Roselle Park, N.J. are slated for action as Quamaine Futrell faces Alex Diaz of Hillsborough in a 132-pound novice bout. The fight will be Futrell’s first since his dubious points loss in Greenland in May. Other Park Elite fighters include Eric Orr of Roselle facing Ronntrell Anderson of Gloucester, N.J. in a meeting of 17-year-old 147-pounders, while Andriy Lishchuk of Linden will face Jeremiah Felton-Alexander of Trenton in a 165-pound bout.
Saturday’s forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain, with a high of 76 degrees, with showers expected throughout the day, according to Accuweather.
