Shakur Stevenson to face Edwin De Los Santos on Nov. 16 for vacant lightweight belt

Shakur Stevenson will attempt to become a three-division champion under the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Newark’s favorite son will face Edwin De Los Santos on Thursday, November 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will be for the vacant WBC lightweight title, and will headline a championship doubleheader on ESPN (beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET).

Stevenson (20-0, 10 knockouts) will be heading out west after winning back to back fights at the Prudential Center in Newark. The 26-year-old southpaw is coming off a one-sided beating of Shuichiro Yoshino in April to become the mandatory challenger for the belt, which had belonged to Devin Haney before he was named “champion in recess” in order to challenge Regis Prograis for the WBC title at 140 pounds.

“Edwin De Los Santos is a good fighter and he’s going to come to fight. I give him credit for actually taking this fight when so many other so-called ‘fighters’ ran from it. I’m the biggest boogeyman in boxing, and on November 16, the world will see why when I put on another great performance for the fans,” said Stevenson, referencing Frank Martin’s on and off relationship with their proposed bout.

De los Santos (16-1, 14 KOs) of the Dominican Republic is also a lefty who is seeking his first world title. The 23-year-old is coming in off a number of medium profile wins, including a stunning third round knockout of Jose Valenzuela last September in Los Angeles.

“I am a proud Dominican warrior who fights for my people! Shakira, I’m going to kick your ass,” said De Los Santos, who is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz.

The card will also feature Emanuel Navarrete defending his WBO junior lightweight title against Robson Conceicao.

Tickets for the show go on sale on Friday, October 6 at 3 p.m. ET via AXS.com.
