Malachi Georges scores points win at USA-Italy dual

Malachi Georges closed out another successful international assignment in emphatic fashion on Saturday, defeating Italy’s Chimé Dean Nwokedi by decision to help Team USA salvage a 4-4 draw at the 2026 Capri Boxing Cup dual meet.

For Georges, the victory was another milestone in what has become a breakout year on the international stage. The 90-kilogram boxer from Teaneck, N.J. entered the dual fresh off a silver medal performance at the 2026 Copa America tournament, and Saturday’s win was his third international assignment of the year.

Georges’ victory capped the evening for the Americans, who split the eight-bout dual with host nation Italy after earning four victories.

The United States also received dominant stoppage wins from Yahir Diaz-Martinez and Robby (Rahim) Gonzales, both of whom won by stoppages. Diaz-Martinez halted Michele Baldassi in the men’s 60-kilogram division, while Gonzales stopped Alfred Commey at 80 kilograms. Diaz-Martinez’s victory marked his sixth international win of 2026 after already collecting bronze at the Gee Bee Tournament and silver at Copa America. Gonzales was competing internationally for the first time since returning from an injury suffered earlier this year.

The Americans’ fourth victory came from Kendra Samargis, who earned a points decision over Melissa Gemini in the women’s 75-kilogram division. The Idaho native improved to 4-0 internationally after winning gold at this year’s Copa America.

Four other U.S. boxers went the distance but dropped decisions. Jennifer Lozano fell to Sara Calvani at 51 kilograms, Jajaira Gonzalez lost to Stella Tosadori at 60 kilograms, Dustin Jimenez was defeated by Giacomo Giannotti at 65 kilograms and Alyssa Mendoza lost to Irma Testa at 57 kilograms.

USA Boxing’s squad in Capri was led by National Technical Coach Zaur Antia, along with Elite High Performance assistant pool coaches Jay Nimo and Stephen Grand.
