Teaneck’s Malachi Georges named to Team USA roster for duel against Italy
Teaneck boxer Malachi Georges will represent the United States this weekend when Team USA faces Italy in an international duel in Capri.
Georges, who will compete in the 90-kilogram division, is one of eight American boxers selected for the event on Saturday, July 25. The roster consists of four men and four women and includes several Olympians, world-level medalists and members of USA Boxing’s High Performance program.
Georges enters the event after earning a silver medal at the 2026 Copa America in Colombia. He is one of three Copa America silver medalists on the American men’s roster, joining Yahir Diaz-Martinez at 60 kilograms and Dustin Jimenez at 65 kilograms.
The trip will give Georges another opportunity to gain international experience against elite opposition as he continues representing New Jersey on the international stage.
Former world champion Robby “Rahim” Gonzales will complete the American men’s lineup at 80 kilograms. Gonzales won gold at the 2021 World Championships and is returning to competition after sustaining an injury earlier this year at the Strandja Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria.
The women’s roster includes three boxers who represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics: Jennifer Lozano at 51 kilograms, Alyssa Mendoza at 57 kilograms and Jajaira Gonzalez at 60 kilograms.
Lozano is coming off a gold-medal performance at the Copa America, where she finished with a 7-0 record. Mendoza won bronze at the 2026 Strandja Tournament, while Gonzalez will compete for the first time since returning from an injury that kept her out of action since 2025.
Kendra Samargis, another Copa America gold medalist, will represent Team USA at 75 kilograms. The Idaho native went 3-0 during her international debut in Colombia.
National Technical Coach Zaur Antia will lead the team alongside Elite High Performance assistant pool coaches Jay Nimo and Stephen Grand.
