Weequahic Park amateur show canceled

The free outdoor amateur show scheduled for Friday at Weequahic Park in Newark has been canceled.

USA Boxing New Jersey made the announcement on Thursday night, issuing an email just before midnight that read, “The event is being cancelled by the sanction holder.” The show, which was titled Champions of Tomorrow, only had four bouts scheduled on MatchMyBoxer.

The show was to be promoted by former boxer Kelvin Prather.

There will still be amateur boxing in Newark this weekend as the Bangout @ Boylan 2, scheduled for this Saturday at the Boylan Recreation Center, will be promoted by Nasir Graham, with first fight set for 2 p.m.
